10 Worst Dads In Horror Movie History
You won't want these guys around on Father's Day!!
A father is supposed to love you, cherish you, raise you, provide sage advice and generally help you become a good person. Unfortunately, that isn't always the case. There are plenty of terrifying people in the world who don't do dads much justice, and horror movies are certainly not shy when it comes to exploring and exploiting that unfortunate truth.
The horror genre excels when delivering domestic scares, i.e. weaponizing the comfort of a familiar/stable situation by adding something scary to the mix. Whether it's a home invasion, a wandering spirit or, naturally, a father gone mad, it's safe to say no one can sit through movies like this and feel entirely easy.
Throughout the years, horror cinema has wracked up a collection of dads who make characters like Homer Simpson look like Danny Tanner. These guys are creepy, dangerous, and terrifying as they provide a severe amount of danger for the people they are supposed to be caring for.
Some of the following characters are murderous maniacs, and others are simply terrible at raising their kids, but no matter which way you split it, these people are not fit to be fathers.
10. Wilfred James - 1922
1922 is one of the lesser-known/appreciated Stephen King adaptations on the market, but considering how damn many of them there are, that's not too shocking. Still, while the movie might have gone under the radar, anyone who did watch it can agree that Wilfred James did not have his son's best interests in mind.
The movie follows Wilfred as he murders his wife to stop her from selling their farm. That's terrible enough on its own, but it becomes even worse after he coerces his teenage son into helping with the murder. Yikes, that's not the kind of father/son bonding you like to see.
It should come as no surprise that this severely traumatises the kid and leads him down a perilous road. The guilt also torments Wilfred, as he's haunted by the fear of what he has done. Still, you could easily argue that he deserves it, as it was deeply wrong of him to put that kind of pressure and sin on a kid. Murdering your wife is bad enough; you don't need to involve your son!
Naturally, this won't be the only Stephen King-written father to make it onto this list. In fact, it's only the beginning.
