10 Worst Dads In Horror Movie History
2. Stepfather - The Stepfather (1987)
Being a stepfather is no easy task, as you're more often than not going to be treated like a villain invading someone's life. Characters like Phillip from Shaun of the Dead are prime examples of how to work around that. However, Jerry/Henry/Bill from The Stepfather is a far less wholesome depiction of step fathering.
Stepfather is a serial killer who assumes different identities and infiltrates families. He charms widowed women with teenage kids into marrying him before letting his unstable and murderous instincts take over.
Rather than being a one-dimensional murderer, this terrifying dad has a mission to create the perfect family. His fits of rage come from perceived slights to his antiquated ideas of what family life should be. While most frustrated fathers will shout or hide in their man caves, this monster goes on murderous rampages.
The character is played wonderfully by Lost's Terry O'Quinn in the first and second movies, with Robert Wightman taking over for the third instalment.
A shout-out should also go to the 2009 remake, which did a decent job of reimagining this terrifying baddie. But, of course, it didn't manage to outdo the terrifying original Terry O'Quinn performance.
