10 Worst Horror Movie Characters Of 2022

8. Leatherface - Texas Chainsaw Massacre

For the love of God, no more.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre's initial outing was released in 1974, nearly 50 years ago. For context, the same year saw Richard Nixon resign the presidency, Muhammad Ali KO George Foreman, and an unheard-of young author named Stephen King publish his first novel, Carrie.

Accordingly, it does not seem outrageous to suggest that this is a franchise that has been dead as a doornail in terms of innovation and entertainment factor for at least half of its lifespan - a fact never highlighted in more depressing clarity than by 2022's ultra-creatively titled Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Leatherface has quite simply lost the inherent scare factor that made him such a terrifyingly unhinged antagonist in the first place. While the latest installments in the franchise have tried to compensate for this sad state of affairs by ramping up the levels of gore and bloodshed, this sadly does not change the fact that this is a character who needs to be relegated to the scrap pile at this point in proceedings.

The last few installments within the franchise have been so atrocious they have begged the question: if the people charged with protecting the legacy of this legendary horror character aren't going to bother trying to do him justice, what is the point in churning out cinematic sh*tshow after sh*tshow?

Leatherface's iconic status within horror canon means that he deserves better than relegation to this list.
