10 Worst Horror Movie Characters Of 2022

7. Eliot Jones - Slayers

Slayers Thomas Jane
The Avenue Entertainment

Bar the inclusion of Zombieland's Abigail Breslin, everything about 2022's Slayers screams B-movie. A group of internet celebrities are invited to what appears to be the mansion of a reclusive multi-millionaire, which is soon revealed to be the lair of a malevolent vampire. The hapless influencer dweebs' only hope for survival lies in the hands of Thomas Jane's dour vampire hunter, Eliot Jones.

The truly frustrating thing about Jane's take on Jones is that any hopes for Slayers' success were utterly dependent on the film successfully poking fun at its own genre tropes. As such, the actor's somewhat inexplicable choice to play Jones as such a thoroughly miserable b*stard feels like a notably missed opportunity for some tongue-in-cheek anti-hero character development. Slayers is a horror-comedy at the end of the day, and as such, it is hard to ignore the fact that its leading man fails to illicit a great deal of laughs across the film's 88-minute run.

The veteran actor does his best with a few choice zingers and instances of cartoonish brutality, but ultimately just comes across as morose, forgettable and utterly unlikable from start to finish. Even the revelation of Jones' suitably tragic - albeit laughably clichéd - backstory regrettably does little to boost the levels of audience investment for this sour-faced contemporary Van Helsing knock-off.
