10 Worst Horror Movie Characters Of 2022

6. Owen Whistler - They/Them

They/Them Kevin Bacon
Peacock

This writer has a bone to pick with Kevin Bacon - and not just for sapping the collective soul of the United Kingdom with his appallingly irritating EE adverts.

Bacon's latest horror, They/Them, is a maddeningly frustrating outing. Championing the LGBT community within the horror genre is admirable, but the movie ultimately gets bogged down in the unfortunate ether between playing it too safe and making the film so serious that it legitimately stops being an enjoyable viewing experience of any kind.

Despite this writer's contemptuous bias due to Bacon's insufferable commercials, the American isn't actually as terrible as all that in They/Them. The primary issue is that he's an entirely average, run-of-the-mill horror antagonist in a film possessing a message of such importance that Bacon's noticeably sub-par performance simply isn't good enough.

There is also the nature of conversion camp leader Owen Whistler to consider. Whistler is such an evil personality on paper that Bacon could have turned this "pray away the gay" sh*tbag into one of the most detestable villains in recent horror history. As such, while he is unquestionably a talented performer, the decidedly unadventurous nature of Bacon's take on this abhorrent baddie is disappointing to say the least.

This is a man who cut his teeth in the horror industry with Friday the 13th, after all!
