10 Worst Movie Characters Of 2020 (So Far)

The horror, the horror.

Though 2020's cinematic output has been a little lighter than expected for obvious reasons, between the year's early theatrical releases and the avalanche of movies currently being streamed to homes worldwide, there's still a ton of content for film fans to hoover up.

And while much of it has been great, like any other year there's also been a fair share of truly terrible movies, defined by painfully awful writing, terrible direction, and deeply offputting performances.

But beyond the entire content of the films themselves, these 10 releases all have the dubious honour of "gifting" audiences some of the worst movie characters of the entire year to date.

From wildly misguided attempts to rehash cinematic icons, to astoundingly lame villains, thoroughly unlikable protagonists, and one of the most unnecessary celebrity cameos you'll see in this year or any other, these characters were black holes from which no charm or entertainment value could escape.

No matter how much you might like the actors in question, these characters sucked the life and joy out of their respective projects...

10. Dr. John Dolittle (Robert Downey Jr.) - Dolittle

Not merely content to be one of the worst movies of 2020 to date, Dolittle also put Robert Downey Jr. in the embarrassing position of trying to prop up the dud blockbuster with his inherent charms.

Unfortunately, he failed.

In addition to being one of the few genuinely bad performances in the actor's career, John Dolittle as a character just isn't much fun to be around at all.

Beyond warbling most of his dialogue through an ambiguous "Welsh" accent, Dolittle makes for a curiously charmless protagonist, trying desperately to fill the self-consciously eccentric hero void left wide open by Johnny Depp in recent years.

It certainly didn't help endear the character to audiences that a massive chunk of his dialogue was clearly piped in during post-production, and the film climaxes with an infamously nightmarish sequence in which Dolittle performs a colonoscopy on a dragon, finding his innards gummed up with bagpipes and a suit of armour.

As ill-conceived as this movie was from the ground-up, it didn't even have the good sense to exploit Downey Jr.'s penchant for witty repartee. Instead, the title character was a creepy, annoyingly mumbly weirdo.
