The Marvel Cinematic Universe is not only the highest-grossing franchise ever, but it's easily the most ambitious film series of all time and nothing like it had ever been attempted before. Impressively, the standard of quality for the franchise has been consistently high since its inception.

The MCU has some of cinema's finest superhero films in its line-up and even the lower-tier instalments are usually OK rather than terrible. As things stand, there are only two flat-out bad MCU films: Iron Man 2 and this, Thor: The Dark World. Still, as tedious as Iron Man 2 is, Thor: The Dark World takes it as the MCU's biggest fail to date.

Featuring sleep-inducing video game-like battles,, a terrible central romance, the worst MCU villain ever and a stunningly lazy script, this one is a real chore to sit through and not even the great performances from Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston are enough to save it.
