10 Worst Superhero Movies Of The 21st Century

6. Ghost Rider 2: Spirit Of Vengeance (2011)

Ghost Rider Spirit Of Vengeance

What on earth was Marvel Studios thinking when they parted with $75million to make this car crash sequel? The first Ghost Rider from 2007, was for many a surprise success.

Receiving box office income of $228million and starring popular names such as Eva Mendes, Sam Elliot and of course, Nicolas Cage, Ghost Rider was a popular, albeit slightly ironic comic book based film. The same praise cannot be given to its mostly forgotten sequel mind, as it was critically panned and only managed an average box office reception.

This installment of the Ghost Rider story sees Johnny Blaze (Nicolas Cage) fighting to save a young boy from the devil so he can have his soul returned to him. Sadly, it seems most of the budget was blown on re-hiring Nicolas Cage, bringing Idris Elba on board and a display of visual effects that were nothing short of ungodly overkill. Screenplay and acting are subsided to make room for the elaborate, exaggerated CGI fight scenes, making the plot seem hollow.

Character development is almost non-existent and the narrative is so thin it could get blown away by the wind. This sequel was made purely to cash in on a successful film release and it deservedly backfired.
