9. Atlantis (The Spy Who Loved Me)

What would an article about crappy villainous lairs be without at least one or two references to the James Bond franchise? The series has had its share of risible bad guy hideouts, but one of the worst has to be Karl Stromberg's Atlantis (nicknamed by many fans as the "Water Spider") from The Spy Who Loved Me. The idea is simple and sensible enough; this four-legged construct - not much of a spider really then, is it? - was to keep Stromberg and his comrades safe underwater while he attacked Earth. However, like every villainous lair, it has a fatal flaw; it needed to return to the surface occasionally, which would illustrate yet another weakness - why, those hind legs, of course. Take the legs out, as Bond manages to, and the rest of the lair is at the mercy of the attacker, something Stromberg learns first hand. It seems he's not the masterful tactician we expected.
