10 WTF Moments That Made You Give Up On A Movie
6. The Last Jedi - Rose Pushes Finn To Safety
A deeply divisive film to put it mildly, The Last Jedi was well received by critics but polarised fan opinion by opting for unusual story elements which broke with the story laid out in The Force Awakens.
Choosing the path of “subverting your expectations”, Director Rian Johnson made several creative decisions that failed to connect with the wider Star Wars fandom. The casino subplot was unnecessary, Captain Phasma was once again wasted, and the less said about the Porgs the better.
The most disappointing moment comes in the final act, when former storm trooper Finn decides to sacrifice himself to prevent The First Order from from destroying what remains of the Republic forces. It feels right for his character, who initially fears The Order after escaping them, but rose to fight them alongside his new allies. The sequence felt like the well-crafted end of a brilliant story arc, and one of the Franchise's most beautiful moments.
The decision to have new character Rose crash into him with a surprise declaration of love left us feeling like Finn was cheated out of a great end to his story. This moment was so hated by Fans that Rose’s character ended up being unfairly diminished in the critically panned Rise of Skywalker. Finn's too felt severely out of place, as though JJ Abrams had no plan for what to do with him beyond the second film.
