100 Greatest Comic Book Movies Of All Time

6. Thor: Ragnarok

Thor Ragnarok

An ode to 80s comic book vividity and perfectly weighted with silly Marvel humour, Thor: Ragnarok learns from its predecessor Guardians of the Galaxy and hones in on all the things that make it brilliant.

With Thor stuck on an alien planet under the tyrannical rule of a flamboyant Jeff Goldblum, he’s forced to face up against the Hulk to earn his freedom and save Asgard from annihilation in the apocalyptic event of Ragnarok. Hela’s there, Odin’s got some issues, and it’s all very stressful for a film that’s essentially Gladiator in space.

It’s insanely good fun though, and everything a comic book movie should be. Taika Waititi is a breakout director for the blockbuster franchise, as Ragnarok incorporates the impeccable timing of the What We Do In The Shadows creator alongside his eye for cinematography, creating a film that’s a visual feast as much as it is an entertaining story.

Accessible to hardcore fans as well as newbies, as well as spawning the ever lovable Meek and Korg: there’s no way it wasn’t making a place for itself in the Top 10, really. To anyone that disagrees: Piss off, ghost!

NCTJ-qualified journalist. Most definitely not a racing driver. Drink too much tea; eat too much peanut butter; watch too much TV. Sadly only the latter paying off so far. A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
