100 Greatest Movie Villains Of All Time

70. Alonzo Harris - Training Day

training day Played By: Denzel Washington By the time Training Day opens, Denzel Washington's morally bankrupt cop has long ago crossed the line all police officers should never cross and it becomes a matter of when not if he explodes and attempts to drag the whole world down with him. Alonzo's actions are all the more shocking as he is played by permanent good guy Denzel Washington who unleashes a new layer of depth in this revelatory performance. Alonzo is only in it for himself, to rule over the gangs and control the city under his iron fist and he terrorises Ethan Hawke's naive cop until he finally fights back. Alonzo is charismatic, a great orator and a massive screen presence - all the attributes needed for a great movie villain.

69. Robert Ford - The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford

Robert Ford Played By: Casey Affleck As the title says, Robert Ford is a coward and murderer who slays down his mentor and hero for fortune and fame. Jesse James himself is a bad man - he's an outlaw - a thief and killer, but he never reached the lows of his one time accomplice. After the killing, Ford and his brother attempted to become famous through retelling the events of Jesse's death as a stage play but their yearning for heroism ended with being branded cowards and Jesse rose to the status of folk legend. Ford idolises Jesse throughout the film, often to unsettling lengths and his quiet, unsettling demeanour is never more explicit than in the assassination scene where he kills his hero out of pure spite, jealousy and selfishness. Robert Ford is truly the worst kind of man.

68. Catherine Tramell - Basic Instinct

Played By: Sharon Stone Catherine is one of cinema's most notorious femme fatale's and probably the most popular judging by Basic Instinct's continuing popularity despite the sequel bombing. She's cruel and determined and the pleasure she gets from murder and home wrecking is shocking. Catherine doesn't seem capable of emotion, only feigning them to get what she wants - cold hard cash. Catherine is what makes Basic Instinct such an exciting film as she is crazy and unrestrained but it's hard not to like someone who is responsible for the death of Stan Collymore.
