William Hootkins has the honour of being remembered fondly by fans of two major franchises, with Star Wars being the other. In that franchise, he played the doomed Jek Porkins. In the Batman world, meanwhile, he was the corrupt Lt. Eckhardt in Tim Burton's 1989 rendition of Batman. You remember the line, if not the character himself, that Jack Nicholson's Joker/Jack Napier yells out before offing the crooked cop: "Hey Eckhardt! Think about the future!" Hootkins was a prolific actor, criss-crossing genres, with credits including Raiders Of The Lost Ark, Superman IV, A River Runs Through It, and on television, Remington Steele, Blackadder II, The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles, and The West Wing, and many others. He succumbed to pancreatic cancer in Santa Monica, California in 2005 at the age of 57.
