11 Great F*ck You Performances From Hated Actors
7. Heath Ledger – The Dark Knight
Michael Keaton wasn’t the only actor to catch hell for daring to be cast in a Batman movie and surprising as it may seem given how much praise Heath Ledger received for his performance, fans weren’t best pleased when his casting as The Joker in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight was first announced.
Apparently discounting his grittier roles in films like Monster’s Ball and Candy, Ledger was dismissed as a pretty boy and hot on the tail of his Oscar-nominated performance as gay cowboy Ennis Del Mar in Ang Lee’s Brokeback Mountain, fans saw it fit to throw around inane remarks like ‘Oh my god, is The Joker going to have sex with Batman, hehehe’.
But then Ledger nailed it bringing a manic, wicked energy all his own to The Joker and though he sadly died before the film was released, he went on to posthumously win an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for the role – the only performance in a superhero movie to achieve that feat to date.
