3. Anne Hathaway – The Dark Knight Rises

It seems there’s just no pleasing Batman fans when it comes to casting and hot on the heels of flipping out over Heath Ledger playing The Joker just a few years earlier, they got their knickers in a twist once again when Christopher Nolan hired actress everybody loves to hate Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle aka Catwoman.

With Michelle Pfeiffer’s crazy but sexy take on the femme fatale in Batman Returns to live up to and the big budget 2004 flop that was Catwoman still fresh in everybody’s mind, fans feared that the usually twee and wholesome Hathaway wouldn’t be able to do the seductive, iconic character justice and those reservations were confounded when sneak peeks of Hathaway’s costume – a more functional and demure black leather catsuit, at least compared to Pfeiffer’s hand-stitched, S&M inspired getup – first surfaced.

But like Keaton and Ledger before her, Hathaway proved fans wrong nailing Catwoman and bringing just the right level of sexiness and wry humour to the role, though debates still rage over whether Pfeiffer or Hathaway did it better.
