11 Horror Movie Remakes Coming In 2017
2. The Blob
The original version of The Blob starring Steve McQueen in his first leading role has become a B-movie cult classic since its release in 1958, even spawning an annual celebratory festival, Blobfest. It first got the remake treatment in 1988 in a Chuck Russell and Frank Darabont film that swapped up the original’s alien invasion theme for a government conspiracy based plot.
A second remake has been in the works since 2009 with Rob Zombie originally set to direct, though in early 2015 it was announced that Simon West – director of both Con Air and the music video for Rick Astley’s '80s classic Never Gonna Give You Up – would take over directorial duties. West has since stated he intends to use modern CGI to its full potential to create a much more sophisticated Blob that he promises will be ‘more along the lines of Alien and Predator’.
Only time will tell if it will achieve the cult status of both the original and first remake, but with Samuel L. Jackson rumoured to be starring as a biochemistry professor who tries to thwart the Blob’s quest for world domination, let's cross our fingers for a ‘there’s too many motherf*cking blobs on this mother*cking planet’ scene coming our way soon.
