6. Powell Looks To The Stars - K-PAX (2001)

The Scene: Dr. Mark Powell (Jeff Bridges) is gazing at the stars through his telescope, looking up presumably in search of Prot's (Kevin Spacey) home planet of K-PAX. He then walks back into his home as the scene fades to black. How Long You Waited: 4 minutes. Why Everyone Regrets Staying For It: Because it basically just hammers home what the end of the film already made clear enough, that Powell pretty much believes that Prot was an alien. The proper end of the film made this point with a little more subtlety, and this just felt tacked on for no reason at all. Plus, it doesn't help that the horrible Sheryl Crow song from the credits keeps playing over it, which just seems like a jarring choice tonally and creatively. And on the other side of the coin, if you were hoping the post-credits scene might actually sew up the mystery of Prot once and for all, you'd also be left disappointed, so in short it was a hugely pointless scene that did practically nothing for anyone.
