11 Most Horribly Disappointing Movie Supervillain Reveals
4. Nuclear Man (Superman IV: The Quest For Peace)
We probably shouldn't have been expecting anything good from a fourth Superman movie, after the dreadful third effort, and the fact that Superman IV: The Quest for Peace had just 1/3 of the budget of the first and second Superman films: how does this make any sense at all? Instead of Lex Luthor or any of the other fan favourite villains from Superman's rogues gallery, we get Nuclear Man, a muscle-bound dude who looks like an 80s WWF reject, who was created by firing a nuclear missile with some of Superman's hair attached to it into the sun.
Despite being portrayed by Mark Pillow, he's inexplicably voiced by Gene Hackman just to give the guy something more to do. Nuclear Man has most of Superman's abilities (and some are enhanced beyond that), but his major weakness is that he needs contact with the sun to thrive. Thus, after a protracted and frankly ridiculous fight on the moon, Supes causes an eclipse, which strips Nuclear Man of his powers, and allows The Man of Steel to hurl him into a nuclear reactor, killing him. An awfully conceived idea in every way, the only reason Nuclear Man isn't higher-up is that most people had already given up on these movies being any good by this point.
