11 Movie Franchises We Wish Weren’t Dead

5. Back To The Future

Forget about how average the third instalment was, you can’t help but pine for more Back To The Future.

The cool and comical time-travelling series, which made the career of the charismatic Michael J. Fox, is a great adventure series, and the return of Marty McFly more than twenty-five years later would be just what the doctor ordered.

Each instalment swelled the universe and evolved the central, beloved heroes. It’s rare to see sequels avoid the temptation of rehashing its popular original, but Parts II and III expanded the themes of morality and fate introduced in Part I in satisfying and entertaining ways.

Could There Be A Comeback?

Never say never and all that, but it’s highly unlikely. Co-creator Bob Gale told Yahoo Movies, “We’ve seen sequels made years later and I don’t think I can name one that lives up to the originals. I don’t think you can recapture it… so let’s not mess with it."

Bob speaks the truth, and we should all commend him for not cashing in and jeopardising its cinematic notoriety. But still, it's one of those ideas that really tunes into the nostalgic collected consciousness, no matter how controversial.
