10. Mel Gibson Will Make a Genuine Comeback... From Behind The Camera
Icon ProductionsOne of the biggest movie stars in the world during the 1980's and 1990's, Mel Gibson regularly commanded a $25m fee to lend his presence to a string of commercial successes. However, in recent years a string of well-documented and heavily publicized personal issues have seen the former A-lister barely register as a blip on Hollywood's radar. After a six year absence from screens, the actor returned with 2010's Edge of Darkness before taking villainous roles in genre efforts Machete Kills and The Expendables 3, along with the little-seen Get the Gringo and The Beaver. Its safe to assume at this point that his career will never again reach the heights of previous decades, at least not in front of the camera. At 58 years old, there has never been a better time for an older, wiser and most importantly stable Gibson to make a comeback with a typically passionate directorial effort. Although he has only directed four features since debuting with The Man Without a Face in 1993, Braveheart was a critical and commercial success that landed Gibson an Academy Award for Best Director, the self-funded and highly controversial Passion of the Christ became the most successful independent film in history with $611.9m in box office takings and Apocalypto is one of the most visually stunning movies in recent memory. That's a solid track record for any director, and in the coming years Mel Gibson will step away from starring roles in favor of a Clint Eastwood-esque reinvention as an acclaimed director.
