There are two kinds of Bond fans: those who love Moonraker, and those who think it's the worst of the lot. Many complained that the Star Wars-inspired story, which sees Bond heading into space to take down megalomaniac with a God complex Hugo Drax (Michael Lonsdale) was simply too outlandish, while others embraced what was the overarching daftness of Moore's movies anyway. Whether you enjoy the film or not, it is relatively infamous as an example of how desperate a movie franchise can get when it's run dry of ideas. After all, look where the Leprechaun and Friday the 13th franchises ended up as they got longer in the tooth: yup, in space, and the whole "Movie Sequel...In Space!" cliche was largely born because of this movie. Still, the effects have aged surprisingly well, and if you're prepared to accept its absurdity, it's a relatively enjoyable outing. Above all else, it's certainly not as bland as some of Moore's other efforts.
