One of the biggest controversies facing the Bond series was the casting of Daniel Craig as 007 in late 2005. The majority of the concern surrounded the fact that Craig didn't seem to suit the typical "tall, dark and handsome" conception of Bond, sporting a more rugged look and blond hair which caused the tabloid press to dub him "James Blond." Many hardcore fans were outraged, and though Craig absolutely went on to prove himself by starring in two of the series' best movies (Casino Royale and Skyfall), there are still many purists who turn their nose up at such a deviation from the traditional physical traits of the character. Controversial though it was, Craig's success in the role surely demonstrates that what Bond looks like really isn't the most important factor: it's what's done with the man in the role.
