11 Upcoming Movies That Will Definitely Make You Cry

5. Hacksaw Ridge

Hacksaw Ridge
Summit Entertainment

The Plot: The incredible true story of US Army medic Desmond T. Doss (Andrew Garfield), who refused to take up arms during World War II, but still received a Medal of Honor for saving over 75 fellow soldiers during the Battle of Okinawa.

Why You'll Cry: Mel Gibson (Braveheart, Apocalypto) is a master of the visceral, soul-stirring epic, and in Hacksaw Ridge he's certainly found a unique spin on the typical war movie formula.

Celebration of a very distinct brand of pacifism in a war movie should give this one an extra emotional jolt, especially given the danger Doss will be in throughout the movie. Expect one hell of a payoff at the end, with The Hollywood Reporter's early review stating, "[Gibson] once again proves himself a muscular storyteller who knows exactly how to...heighten emotion."
