12 Actors Who Immersed Themselves Too Far In Movie Scenes
3. Jim Carrey - Man On The Moon
The Netflix documentary, Jim & Andy, showed how dedicated Jim Carrey was while playing legendary comedian, Andy Kauffman, in Man on the Moon. It also proved what a nightmare the rubber-faced funnyman was to work with. In fact, the studio intentionally withheld as much behind-the-scenes footage during production as possible, knowing it could tarnish the Hollywood star's reputation.
Carrey harassed the crew and actors, especially when portraying Kauffman's antagonistic persona, Tony Clifton. He also visited Kaufman's father pretending to be his dead son, which is... all sorts of messed up.
While filming a heated scene with wrestler, Jerry Lawler, Carrey spat in his face. When the WWE star grabbed him by the neck, Carrey ordered to have the wrestler fired. Although many people assumed this feud was a publicity stunt, Lawler confirmed in an interview that it wasn't. When Carrey's agent heard about his client's antics, he genuinely thought he was ending his career.
Carrey was so adamant about not breaking character that he maintained his Kaufman persona while auditioning for the title role in How the Grinch Stole Christmas. During his audition, Carrey claimed he portrayed Andy Kaufman portraying Jim Carrey portraying the Grinch. Try and figure that one out.
