9. Jake Gyllenhaal Turned Down Rick Flagg
Suicide Squad might well have the legs to "save" the DCCU, but there's still a nagging suspicion that the big name players who were initially announced as cast members will end up dropping out one by one and be replaced with gradually less exciting replacements. It's already started in fact, after Tom Hardy pulled out due to scheduling conflicts, and now the man supposedly lined up to replace him has also turned down the chance to star, according to Variety. The rumour mill will no doubt now spin wildly: Hardy was actually rumoured to have turned it down after reading the first draft, and if that's the case with Gyllenhaal (who was apparently courted personally by director David Ayers) then something big is going to have to change before the rest of the cast follow suit. This isn't the first time the Donnie Darko actor has been linked to superhero movies either: he was close to nabbing Spider-Man for the sequel when Toby Maguire injured his back and he was David S Goyer's first choice for Batman after screen-testing.
