12 Actors Who Stupidly Turned Down Comic Book Movies
10. Emily Blunt Turned Down Black Widow (& Peggy Carter)
Blunt wasn't just Marvels first choice for Black Widow in Iron Man 2 but also for Peggy Carter in Captain America: The First Avenger, before turning both roles down, calling those types of roles thankless. Inevitably her desire to play a comic book character who isn't just the "pill girlfriend" has resulted in her attracting attention for Captain Marvel, which is especially pertinent given her desire to play a comic book movie role "that would scare the bejesus out of me. Despite those initial comments it seems Blunt's refusal of both roles was more logistical than tonal:
"It was never the right time, really, and it just didn't work out scheduling-wise with those two. It's always a difficult thing to talk about, because it's not fair to the actresses who ended up playing them, you know? It just wasn't the right time."
She also acknowledges that she's a front-runner for Captain Marvel, at least with the fans:
"No one's offered me that officially, so it's... very unofficial. I think it's fan-casting, which is always very nice. But nothing official has been offered, for sure. If I get it, thank Meryl for it!"
