12 Anticipated 2015 Movies That Have Already Lost The Oscar Race

6. I Saw The Light

The Hype: Tom Hiddleston gets massively out of his comfort zone here playing legendary late country singer Hank Williams, and if he pulls it off, he's almost certainly going to be in the Oscar conversation, right? Hell, with Elizabeth Olsen playing Hank's wife Audrey, perhaps it could even snag several other awards too. Why It's Lost The Oscar Race: After its TIFF premiere, the film was cut down to size by critics, scoring an unfortunate 31% so far and being largely criticised as an overly straight-forward, compartmentalised biopic without any distinct personality of its own. Hiddleston was still lauded for his solid work, though further hurting the film is that Williams' own grandson, Hank Williams III, has been vocally critical of the British actor's casting in a role which he didn't deem him fit for. A great performance let alone a merely good one can rarely rise above a bad film, and so the movie's Oscar chances have essentially gone up in smoke thanks to writer-director Mark Abraham.
