12 Anticipated 2015 Movies That Have Already Lost The Oscar Race
5. Trumbo
The Hype: Bryan Cranston plays the iconic blacklisted Hollywood screenwriter Dalton Trumbo in a drama jam-packed to the rafters with supporting talent, including Helen Mirren, John Goodman, Diane Lane, Elle Fanning, Alan Tudyk, Michael Stuhlbarg, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje and Louis C.K. Plus, it's directed by multi Emmy-winner Jay Roach, who is clearly looking to make his leap to Academy recognition. Hollywood absolutely loves movies about itself (just look at Argo), so why wouldn't this be a card-carrying contender for Best Actor, Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay, several crafts awards and maybe even Mirren as Best Supporting Actress? Why It's Lost The Oscar Race:Trumbo has received positive reviews from fest screenings so far, though most of these reviews are heavily qualified by the admission that Trumbo isn't a whole lot more than a glorified TV movie featuring A-list actors. As such, half of the aforementioned awards are pretty much off the table, and though Cranston is the film's biggest hope, it sounds like Trumbo simply settles for good rather than great, which just won't do in what's almost always the Oscars' most crowded field.
