12 Awesome Performances In Otherwise Awful 2016 Movies
10. Matt Damon – Jason Bourne
Matt Damon returns to the Bourne franchise for its fifth film, Jason Bourne, and if critic consensus is anything to go by he’s just about the only good thing in the movie. Reuniting with Paul Greengrass, the director of the first Bourne film, Damon gives a tortured turn as the rogue amnesiac – a role that he’s really grown into since his first performance as the former CIA assassin in The Bourne Identity well over a decade ago.
Despite a relevant cyber terrorism plotline and some blistering action sequences, however, the film suffers from a repetitive storyline in which we see Bourne yet again trying to uncover the secrets of his past and yet again getting into all kinds of spy-based scrapes. It’s a perfectly fun movie and again we see Bourne inventively turn the most seemingly innocuous of objects into weapons (a table leg and the handle of a Las Vegas casino slot machine are employed effectively this time around), it’s ultimately a largely forgettable and pointless sequel.
