12 Awesome Performances That Saved Underwhelming Films

6. Jessica Rothe - Happy Death Day

Alien Covenant David Michael Fassbender

Happy Death Day was a garden variety horror film released last year. It did very well on the whole and reviews were pretty good. It was a bit of a fun, but don't go in expecting too much. You'll only be disappointed. Another annoying thing about it was that 50 Cent's In Da Club wasn't even in it, despite featuring so much in the marketing,

The vast majority of elements in Happy Death Day were workmanlike and not particularly interesting. The one thing that really leaped off the screen was Jessica Rothe as the film's protagonist. After this, Jessica Rothe looks set to become the next big scream queen.

Hopefully, Jessica Rothe can take over as resident scream queen once Hollywood finally wakes up and sends current scream queen Mary Elizabeth Winstead towards the big and meaty roles she deserves instead of being stuck in lots of underwhelming horror films, Jessica Rothe can take over. Then, she can improve plenty of other mediocre horror films with her evidently impressive acting chops.

Sometimes funny, sometimes moving and always believably scared, Rothe sells both the fear and the character's transformation from obnoxious sorority girl to lovable heroine excellently. Best of all, she's also lots of fun to watch. Without her, Happy Death Day would've been far less watchable.
