12 Best Performances In 2017 Films (So Far)
10. Charlie Hunnam – The Lost City Of Z
When it comes to box office results, it seems 2017 just isn’t
Charlie Hunnam’s year. His big budget medieval fantasy King Arthur: Legend of
the Sword deservedly flopped and his biographical drama The Lost City of Z
similarly disappointed (though not quite as catastrophically) making just $17
million back on its $30 million budget.
But unlike King Arthur, The Lost City of Z was actually well received by critics and it’s a shame that more moviegoers didn’t give the film a chance because it’s definitely Hunnam’s best performance to date.
Playing real-life explorer Percy Fawcett, who disappeared while trekking the Amazon jungle in search of a mysterious ancient city, Hunnam gives a nuanced performance as a man who is at once both empathetic and full of conviction yet also zealous and driven by obsession in his quest to conquer the unknown.
With any luck, if he can get over the shame of King Arthur, it’ll lead to more bigger and better roles for Hunnam in future.
