12 Biggest Lies Told In Star Wars Movies

12. “A Jedi Uses The Force For Knowledge And Defence, Never For Attack”

The Lie

According to Yoda, Jedi discipline means they are not permitted to use their powers offensively - they are limited to defensive Force use, as it is assumed that the alternative would be a path to the Dark Side.

The Truth

They'll attack, as long as it helps them.

Almost immediately after "completing" his Jedi training with Yoda - in which he's told not to use the Force to attack - Luke infiltrates Jabba's base, attacks two guards from behind using the Force and then eventually blows up the sail barge, without consideration for any collateral damage.

Did musician Max Rebo deserve to be blown up? Even if he survived, blowing him up is an act of offensive violence by its very definition.

Obviously, there's an interesting interpretation that says Lucas was playing with the idea of Grey Jediism, but that wouldn't explain why Yoda himself - a paragon of Jedi virtue - would have attacked Sidious imperial guards in Revenge Of The Sith. And sure, you could say that there's a caveat (in that Jedi can interpret the future actions of others), but doesn't that just make Yoda's words diluted?
