12 Brilliant Movie Scenes When Actors Weren't Acting
10. The Fart Story - Good Will Hunting
You really have to admire the fact that Matt Damon and Ben Affleck managed to score a Best Original Screenplay Oscar for Good Will Hunting. It was a stunning achievement - particularly as neither of them had made any sort of substantial breakthrough by the time it was written.
But even with the endorsement of their work, it turns out that neither Damon nor Affleck wrote one of the film's most heartfelt scenes, which comes at the point of Will's important emotional breakthrough. In a therapy session with Robin Williams' Dr Sean Maguire, he listens as Maguire talks about his wife and how much he misses her. He affectionately relates the story of her farting in her sleep so loudly she'd wake herself and the dog up.
Naturally, Damon cracks up, and he revealed on the DVD commentary that Williams improvised the whole story, and the laughter is very much real. You can even see the camera shaking with laughter too.
