The Rumour

According to Latino Review, WAY back before Spider-Man had appeared in Civil War, the plan for his solo movie would include him fighting Iron Man to audition for The Avengers, because apparently Tony Stark is a sadist.

The Killer Proof

Well, there are a few hurdles here: first, there are no Avengers currently. They've disbanded and what remains is unlikely to be ratified under that name before some sort of heroic return in Infinity War. There's nothing for Spidey to audition for.

Plus, he already passed the audition anyway. Thanks to Stark's access to Spidey's Youtube clips, he already recruited him. It doesn't follow that he'd then go backwards and do the same thing again.

Would It Have Been Any Good?

It's a nice idea (primarily because of the flight versus swing battle we could have seen), but it would have stuck out like a sore thumb after Civil War. I'm not at all against War Room simulations (I loved the idea in X-Men), but Iron Man isn't really built for soft combat, and it would be wholly irresponsible of Stark to fight an unarmoured kid with his blaster-equipped Death Suit.
