A Black Widow solo film was something fans were asking for for a long time, so this was an anticipated release anyway, but the hype for this one went further than that. It was the first MCU film in nearly two years and the beginning of the franchise's Phase 4, so expectations were high.

And... they blew it.

To be honest, the moment had already passed for a Black Widow film since the character's story ended in Avengers: Endgame, but had this movie not been quite so dispiritingly boring, it would've felt more acceptable.
