12 Despicable Movie Villains Who Stole Every Scene

4. Calvin Candie - Django Unchained

Jack Nicholson The Departed
Miramax Films

He's isn't actually in the movie a great deal, but he is the epitome of white privilege and vile racism. He cuts an almost pantomime figure, with eccentric, outlandish and grandiose outbursts. It is very easy to be drawn to a man who compensates for his physical flaws - just look at those teeth - by over-emphasising how great he looks, and with gross acts of violence and bigotry.

Candie is not someone to do anything without it taking a dramatic turn. Everything is a show for him, and so by proxy everything around him is delivered as a facade of fantasied wealth and glory to buffer his own ego. He is arguably one of the more charismatic villains in history and with Leo at the wheel, it's easy to roll with that notion.

There is an aura of nonchalance about the character too, he doesn't fear consequence nor does he worry about the despicable things going on around him as he relentlessly spouts articulate rants about himself. I suppose it would be fair to say that he wouldn't be far from an ideal stereotypical Bond villain.

Leo famously went full "Leo" and powered through a scene of intense interrogation after he accidentally injured his finger for real, resulting in blood spewing everywhere during the action. Moments like this highlight what a colour and attention-grabbing character he really was.
