12 Films That Wasted Incredible Potential
1. Solo: A Star Wars Story
Solo: A Star Wars Story focuses on Han’s early adventures ten years prior to the original Star Wars trilogy. As he reluctantly becomes part of a heist within the criminal underworld, Han would come to meet Chewbacca and acquire the Millennium Falcon from Lando Calrissian.
The premise was more than enough to excite long time fans, who were keen to see an origin story to one of the most popular characters in all of film. However, the final product did more to undermine its main character than to make them stand out as the likeable rogue everyone had all come to know him as.
Instead of highlighting any of Han’s skill or natural abilities, he just comes across as being insanely lucky or having things given to him with little effort. The film also went out of its way to focus more on new characters, like L3-37 and Han’s love interest Qi’ra, instead of focusing on the character the film is named after.
Ultimately, Solo was a story that was screaming with potential, but was screwed up so badly that it became the first Star Wars film to lose money at the box office.
