12 Hidden Horror Movie Gems Of The Last Decade
2. The Autopsy Of Jane Doe
From Norwegian director André Øvredal, the man who made Trollhunter, and would later helm Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, The Autopsy of Jane Doe is one of the most terrifying, unsettling movies on this list. Much like The Void, this film's creep factor is heightened immediately by its setting - a mortuary.
Within said mortuary, Tommy and his son Austin are brought the body of a Jane Doe, with the Sheriff needing a cause of death by morning. As soon as the tests start however, the two coroners are dragged deeper and deeper into a mystery that seemingly has no answers.
Throughout the entire supernatural story the audience is kept guessing just how exactly this Jane Doe died, and is faced with twists, turns, and genuine surprises throughout. The small scale movie is largely based around one building, with just two or three characters, carried forward by Brian Cox and Emile Hirsch's incredible work and chemistry together, and Øvredal's strong direction from behind the camera.
