The Pinocchio depicted in the classic Disney movie is a little bit of a scamp, but in the original telling he's down right evil.

First of all he kills Jiminy Cricket (who later comes back as his ghostly conscience). Then he gets Geppetto imprisoned as he convinces the Police to believe that he is abusing Pinocchio. When Geppetto is released from prison he insists that Pinocchio should go to school but instead Pinocchio sells his school books for a ticket to the theatre.

The Cat and Fox from the movie also appear in the written works but they try to hang him. Pinocchio is rescued by the Blue Fairy who is in fact a ghost.

Eventually, Pinocchio does learn his lesson and becomes a real boy.

Disney did surprisingly leave in the part where the boys are transformed into Donkeys, arguably one of the most terrifying scenes in any of their animations.
