12 Horror Movies That Deserved Sequels
5. Bubba Ho-Tep
This is one of the most bittersweet 'what ifs' of recent years for horror fans. Don Coscarelli's 2002 adaptation of Joe R Lansdale's story cast Bruce Campbell as a geriatric Elvis Presley who battles a soul-sucking mummy which attacks his nursing home. From that sentence alone, it should be obvious why the film became an instant cult classic.
While the story comes to a fairly decisive, non-negotiable conclusion, the end titles joked that Elvis would return in Bubba Nosferatu: Curse of the She-Vampires. While Coscarelli had not been serious about this at first, the unexpected critical success of Bubba Ho-Tep prompted him to start work on a script for the sequel (or, more accurately, prequel).
Unfortunately, for reasons that remain unclear, Coscarelli and Bruce Campbell had a parting of ways over the project, and the actor withdrew: a major loss, given his performance was the heart and soul of the original.
For a time Ron Perlman looked poised to take over (and take care of business) as Elvis, whilst Paul Giammati (who subsequently co-starred in Coscarelli's John Dies At The End) was attached to play his famed manager Colonel Tom Parker, yet Bubba Nosferatu has failed to get off the ground to date.
