Open Road Films

Release date: November 6 (US) / January 29 (UK)

In 2002, the Boston Globe uncovered a massive coverup of sexual abuse within the Catholic church, and now Tom McCarthy is bringing that amazing true story of investigative journalism to life in Spotlight. The film stars Mark Ruffalo, Rachel McAdams, Brian d'Arcy James and Gene Amoroso as Boston Globe reporters, John Slattery as their managing editor, and Michael Keaton as the Spotlight team editor. As you can see, the cast is absolutely phenomenal, and how amazing would it be to see Keaton getting award recognition two years in a row? It sure is nice to have him back in great films.

McCarthy has directed some excellent but underlooked movies such as Win Win, The Visitor and The Station Agent, all of which focused on the characters and their relationships above all else. With Spotlight, McCarthy will hopefully be able to take a traditional biographical drama about an important issue and bring his unique sense of characterisation to the table. If he's successful, this could become both one of the most important and most enjoyable films of 2015.
