12 Lesser Known Fall Movies You Should Be Excited About

6. Trumbo

Bryan Cranston Trumbo
Bleeker Street

Release date: November 6 (US) / January 22 (UK)

It's hard to believe it's been nearly two years since the Breaking Bad finale - that's way too long without a regular dose of Bryan Cranston. After going on stage to star as Lyndon Johnson in All the Way, Cranston is headed to theaters in Jay Roach's new film Trumbo.

Cranston will be playing screenwriter Dalton Trumbo, whose film career comes crashing down in the 1940s after being put on Hollywood's blacklist for his political beliefs. That might sound like a heavy drama, but Trumbo is shaping up to be a lot more energetic than that, with Bryan Cranston having a whole lot of fun with this role as he usually does. Director Jay Roach has had plenty of experience with political comedy, previously working on The Campaign and HBO's The Brink, and based on this trailer, he seems to be making use of that light tone even with some more serious material.

Trumbo looks like one of those biographical films that's actually a great time, not simply a dour experience that only exists to snatch up a bunch of awards. If it does, though, and Cranston is nominated for his first Academy Award, that would certainly be a welcome bonus for one of the best actors working today.
