12 MCU Mistakes Thor: Ragnarok Must Avoid

It's a general problem with comic book movies that it's hard to establish a steady set of stakes when the majority of the focal characters are near-indestructible superheroes.

The MCU has particularly suffered here, by magicking characters back from the death (Coulson), pulling too many fake-out deaths (Nick Fury, Loki) and generally only killing superheroes nobody cares about in the first place (Quicksilver).

And then there's the collateral damage debate regarding civilians, which Captain America: Civil War took a decent stab at addressing even if it's surely going to be forgotten about once again.

This just indicates that Marvel is afraid to take any real risks with its characters. With these huge trilogies carved out years in advance, there's no chance of anyone significant dying, and more to the point, actually staying dead. Why, then, should audiences get emotionally invested at all?

Will It Be Avoided?: The Thor franchise is arguably the hardest to tackle in this regard because it revolves around so many God-like entities who can simply die, go to Hel, and then return to Earth because reasons.

It seems pretty likely that Odin might actually die for good in Ragnarok, though, and if it's exploited for maximum impact, it could certainly be one of the more affecting death scenes in the MCU (and given Anthony Hopkins' age, there's actually a good chance he'll stay dead).
