12 MCU Mistakes Thor: Ragnarok Must Avoid
8. Forgettable Villains
As successful as the MCU is, it's impressive how few of the villains have actually had much lasting impact at all.
Though Loki is fantastic, Helmut Zemo was great and Vulture proved surprisingly decent, for the most part the antagonists are bland villains lacking much personality or intrigue, wasting thoroughly talented actors in the process.
The most egregious examples are Thor: The Dark World's Malekith and Guardians of the Galaxy's Ronan, but Yellowjacket also felt like a dull afterthought, and you can certainly argue that Mads Mikkelsen's Kaecilius deserved a little better.
Seriously, how hard is it to hire a talented actor, give them compelling motives and not have them be forgettably offed at the end of the movie?
Will It Be Avoided?: Well, Cate Blanchett certainly looks like she's having a ton of fun in the role of Hela, and while it's best not to expect a huge amount of nuance to her character, it's hard to imagine her ending up as boring as the aforementioned dud baddies.
And then there's Surtur, though he's probably not going to have a particularly substantial role if the marketing is any indication.
So, yes and no, basically.
