12 MCU Mistakes Thor: Ragnarok Must Avoid

5. Not Letting Directors Just Direct

Marvel Studios has occasionally hired auteur directors to tackle their movies, with the likes of Kenneth Branagh and Shane Black managing to operate just fine within that framework.

However, it's clear from Edgar Wright's departure from Ant-Man that the MCU's films have a very specific "house style" both aesthetically and narratively that cannot be tampered with.

As such, Marvel tends to hire lesser-established filmmakers from the indie scene who can be easily shaped to fit the MCU mould, rather than directors who are a recognisable brand onto themselves, because it can create unwarranted conflict.

Will It Be Avoided?: This is an interesting one, because though Taika Waititi has only directed four movies prior to Thor: Ragnarok, all of them low-budget indies, there's a consistent style and tone across them, and a genuine worry that his eccentric originality as a filmmaker could get lost in the Marvel sausage factory.

It's probably reasonable to expect some sort of middle-ground here: the action will adhere more to the typical Marvel style, while the dialogue and visual wit will hopefully give Waititi plenty of room to place his own personal stamp on the movie (but not too much, of course).

It's hard to imagine a director as singular as Waititi signing on if his sensibilities were going to be massively neutered, so fingers crossed it still feels like one of his movies.
