Runtime: 84 minutes Surely the most iconic entry in Sam Raimi's horror-comedy trilogy, Evil Dead 2 is as over-the-top as it is inventive, sending up the more ridiculous aspects of the first Evil Dead film with great glee. The excessive blood, the slapstick gore, and then-innovative use of intentionally shaky camerawork all helped turn this into a cult classic that refuses to lose its craftiness with the passage of time. Made on a shoestring budget, this sequel offers a few legitimate scares, but then quickly amps up the humour to remind you that it's all been done in good fun. One reviewer called Evil Dead 2 a combination of The Three Stooges and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and that's a description Raimi should be happy to etch onto his tombstone.
