12 Most Disappointing Movies From Summer 2016

3. Batman: The Killing Joke

X-Men Apocalypse
Warner Bros.

The Buzz: An adaptation of one of the most acclaimed Batman comics ever, and also the first R-rated Batman animated film to date, with the iconic Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill returning to voice the Caped Crusader and The Joker respectively. You needn't be a DC animation nut to be excited about this.

What We Got: A head-smackingly over-stuffed effort that adds a needless prologue, introduces a cringe-worthy sexual relationship between Barbara Gordon and Batman, turns her into a fawning, naive girl, and takes far too long to get to The Joker.

Now, all the Joker stuff is basically terrific despite the fairly rudimentary animation style, and it nails the comic's big punchline especially, but holy hell did this movie underwhelm. So many poor revisions and ill-advised creative choices. Seriously, how do you screw this up!?
