12 Movie Franchises You Didn't Realise Were Still Going
4. Hatchet
The Films You Know: Adam Green's Hatchet was the definition of a cult horror film: it enjoyed poking fun at the conventions of the genre, but still managed to deliver the gnarly, gory kills you would expect. Made on a micro-budget, the movie was a considerable financial success on home video, giving way to a sequel, Hatchet II, released in 2010. The sequel was received less-warmly than the original, despite Green professing it to be his favourite of the three... The Films You Don't: Despite a significant downturn in audience favour, Hatchet III incredibly came out last year, with Green handing over directorial duties to franchise cameraman BJ McDonnell. The movie embraced the VOD release model, and like its predecessors received a mixed critical response. The open-ended conclusion of Hatchet III certainly leaves room for yet another sequel, though it remains to be seen if the film did decent enough business to warrant another go-around.
