6. The Trench

It feels like whenever someone dares to proclaim the DCEU dead and buried, something injects a bit of testosterone into the franchise's heart and makes it impossible for Warner Bros to write it off and start afresh.

Aquaman absolutely fit that bill and on the back of that film's huge global success, it always looked like a direct sequel was inevitable. That will happen, but the first thing that was announced off the back of it (via THR) was something altogether stranger. Warner Bros surprisingly hired newcomers Noah Gardner and Aidan Fitzgerald to write a horror-focused script centred on the Trench, those weird fish-headed creatures Aquaman and Mera battle as the film heads towards its conclusion.

It will apparently be more modestly budgeted than Aquaman and he won't appear, so it's a strange one to even exist, but it's out there and for now it's coming.
