Coming from The Ice Storm helmer Ang Lee, 2005’s Brokeback Mountain more than earned a spot in cinema history with its touching and tragic depiction of two men’s forbidden love for one another and the brutal cost it had on both of their divergent lives.
That said, for an already sad story of the pair’s doomed love, Lee’s largely tasteful film didn’t need to twist the knife and depict Jack’s murder by a homophobic rabble in such indelicate, brutal terms.
